A journey with dogs

IMG_5521.jpg

Jo has a long held love of animals starting with riding horses as a child and her first family dog Tessa who sparked a genuine and enduring passion for dogs.

Jo now owns 4 dogs. Polly the Golden Retriever, Maya the German Shepherd Cross, Willow the Podenco Canario and Raven the Eurohound.

It was Jo’s Golden Retriver Polly who set Jo on the path of discovering Canine Massage Therapy. Polly became withdrawn and was no longer jumping on the bed for her morning nap in the sunshine. These concerns were discussed with the vet and after xrays were taken and she was diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia at a young age. Jo then began researching ways to manage Polly’s condition and pain.

Sadly and unexpectedly Polly crossed the rainbow bridge in June 2024, Cannect Clinical Canine Massage is her legacy.

IMaya Jo's Romainan rescue then started a journey into discovering cani-sports, when they began running canicross together with a local group. Jo completed a one day introduction to massage with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre and used massage as a way to support Maya through injury.

With the additon of Willow a rescue Podenco, Jo’s interest in dog sports grew to include agility, flyball, and mantrailling. Jo continued to look to massage to help keep Willow injury free. Jo then signed up to the two year Canine Massage Therapy Practitioner Program.

Jo's true passion lies in sled dog sports and at Christmas 2022 she got her first purpose bred sled dog Raven the Eurohound. Jo uses Canine Massage to support Raven to maintain optimum performance in training, keep her injury free, and get her in peak condition for the next racing.

Jo is a member of the Canine Massage Guild and studied with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre for two years to become a Clinical Canine Massage Therapist.

The Lantra accredited course involved over 900 hours of studying and subjects such as:

  • Canine anatomy & physiology

  • Massage disciplines (Swedish, Sports, Deep Tissue, and myofascial release protocols; The Lenton Method ®)

Jo also holds a certificate in Canine First Aid.
